NOTICE TO MEMBERS OF BEARTOOTH ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE

A two-year power contract with Energy Keepers, Inc. starts in 2022, and includes option for three-year extension.

The Beartooth Electric Cooperative Board of Trustees voted on June 27, 2017 to approve a two-year contract for wholesale power with Montana-based Energy Keepers, Inc. (EKI). The contract will supply BEC requirements from October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2024.  A current contract with Morgan Stanley meets BEC wholesale power requirements from October 1, 2017 through September 30, 2022.

The trustees of the Beartooth Electric Cooperative recently informed members that they would see an average reduction of 5 percent in their electric bills starting July 1.


That’s notable in itself, but it follows three other rate reductions totaling 20 percent over the past two years. The idea that energy consumers anywhere would see a total rate reduction of 25 percent in a little more than two years seems incredible.

At Beartooth Electric Cooperative (BEC) April 25 meeting, the trustees adopted a financial strategy that includes a five percent revenue reduction applied entirely to energy charges. Effective July 1, BEC members will see a reduction in their electric bills. This is the last of the predicted possible rate decreases by the board for the imminent future.

Beginning July 1, members of the Beartooth Electric Cooperative, based in Red Lodge, will see a reduction in their electric bills. 

The co-op’s trustees voted at their April meeting to adopt a financial strategy that includes a 5 percent revenue reduction applied entirely to energy charges, said Jim Webb, general manager, in a news release.
